of Moisture King dehumidifiers in Grand Pianos (below). We strongly recommend that in a "Grand piano installation", you install two Moisture King dehumidifier bars. Because a grand piano is spread out, and has horizontal strings rather than vertical strings as in an upright type piano, there is no one place to put a dehumidifier to protect the entire piano. Due to the fact that warm air rises, it is recommended that both Moisture King dehumidifiers be placed under the piano using the clamps supplied. (See illustration). Attach one of the Moisture King dehumidifiers to the under-portion of the back of the main case of the piano, and attach the other one so that it proceeds from front, to the rear of the underside of the sound board. (Attach to the support beams only. Do not attach to the sound board!!!!!). The one closest to the main piano case is designed to protect the action, the pin block, and the main components of the piano. The other one that is placed under the sound board is placed here to protect the strings from rusting and the sound board from being affected by moisture. Under no circumstances, NEVER NEVER NEVER, place a dehumidifier inside of the action area. This will cause excessive drying to the pin block, and will cause the piano to not hold its tune as well. Because warm air rises, the warmth from the dehumidifiers will saturate up through the piano and protect the needed areas. |
